CS2 Fade Knife Guide: Full Fade, Patterns & More

Over the years, Fade Knives have earned their place among the most beloved skins in Counter-Strike, stealing the hearts of many players.

Owning one feels like holding a rainbow in your hands, and if you're lucky enough to have unboxed one or are considering buying one, you need to understand a few key factors that determine a Fade's actual value: fade percentage, what the Full Fade is, and how float value affects the skin's worth.

This fade knife guide covers everything you need to know to make an informed decision.

Fade Pattern Texture

The appearance of a Fade finish works like placing your knife over a colorful gradient map that contains blue, red, yellow, and gray sections. The specific position of your knife on this texture determines exactly which colors show up on the blade and how much of each color you get.

Each pattern index acts like coordinates on this color map, pinpointing your knife's exact location on the fade gradient and changing visible colors across the blade's surface.

The index numbers go from 1 to 1000, each number changing the placement of your knife on the map. Some positions might show mostly yellow or pink colors, while others land in the sweet spot where all three main colors blend together perfectly, creating both visual appeal and higher market value for that specific pattern.

Fade Percentages

Comparison of two CS2 Fade knives on a green tech-themed SkinRave background.

Different patterns have varying fade percentages between 80% and 100%, which is basically the area that is covered in blue, red, and yellow. Generally, blue is the most sought-after, the next is pink, while yellow is considered the least valuable in the color spectrum.

Also, in some cases, the fade coverage can be 110%, like with the Falchion Knife, as with a higher fade percentage, a part of the handle gets the fade coloring as well.

These fade percentages differentiate the fade variants into two categories: Full Fade and Ordinary. While lower percentages still look great, only the highest fades earn the Full Fade status.

What Is Full Fade? Explained

If a knife has a full fade finish, it means that the whole blade is covered in the primary colors, 100% fade, without any gray parts. The most valuable fade variants are those that share the three colors — red, blue, yellow — equally across the blade.

However, for knives like Karambit and Talon Knife, the color distribution is a bit different. They don't have any gray areas in any condition, making each one visually striking. However, the share of colors differs from variant to variant.

The most prized distribution is 90/5/5 — meaning it's 90% pink, 5% purple, and 5% yellow. This pattern, found on seed #412, is widely considered the best possible Fade for these models.

The Fake Full Fades

If you look at different patterns, you can see that the 99% and the 100% fades have minor difference in looks, but are much cheaper in price.

To distinguish the fake full fade from a real one, you must thoroughly inspect it. A sliver of gray at the tip or spine gives them away — something only visible through close inspection or with known pattern indexes. Missing these subtle details can lead to costly mistakes, especially if you end up paying full fade prices for a 99% variant.

But if you're considering buying a fade knife for yourself without being a collector at heart, you might want to consider the 99% to spare literally hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Interesting Patterns – Mango Fades

While Full Fades are the most celebrated, the CS2 community also loves unique and rare-looking alternatives.

A notable example is the Mango Fade — a blade that leans heavily into orange hues. It typically appears in knives with fade percentages between 80.0% and 80.4%, though the exact range varies by knife type.

Famous mango variants include:

  • Huntsman Mango Fade — seed #1
  • Butterfly Mango Fade — seed #412

These patterns may not be Full Fades, but they offer distinctiveness that collectors love.

What Is The Best Fade Pattern Seed?

Across almost all the knives, the best seed is considered the #763 full fade pattern. But with the Karambit and Talon Knife, the story goes a bit differently. For them, #412 is the best seed.

Where to Inspect/ Get The Fade Patterns?

Websites like cs2fades.com show the different fade percentages across all fade weapons, which you can easily check out.

Also, some third-party websites offer in-game inspection. You can choose the skin, the pattern, and the wear level, and see how it looks right in the game.

Whether you're hunting for a perfect full fade or a unique mango pattern, understanding how these variables work is key to making a smart (and stylish) investment.
